Who we are
We are the Multicultural Women’s Alliance Against Family Violence (MWAAFV), a coalition concerned with the lack of culturally specific and appropriate family and domestic violence services in Victoria. Our members comprise multicultural community leaders, service providers, academics, lawyers, and counsellors. We work with representatives of family violence service providers, organisations dealing with gender equity, health, and law, religious organisations, universities, media, policy makers, representatives at all levels of government dealing with family and domestic violence.
We formed this Alliance to create a strong body that will advocate for increased investment in culturally and linguistically specific services to meet the growing needs of our communities.
Our mission is to advocate for increased understanding and funding of family violence services in multicultural communities. We aim to host continuous discussions with stakeholders to increase interconnections, understanding the cultural underpinnings of family violence and funding for multicultural family and domestic violence services.
We hope that by combining our separate voices we can achieve real and effective change.
